Mayor of Walsall tours Black Country Orthodox Church for community refurbishment project

The Mayor’s visit is part of the church’s efforts to improve its community facilities, making them more accessible and ensuring the venue can continue to host local activities like cultural weddings and weekly services.

The church, which has been a long-standing place of connection for the local community, is currently awaiting approval for external grant funding to begin the much-needed work

“ It was a real pleasure to visit the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God here in Walsall. This church is not only a place of worship, but a cornerstone of the local community, a place where culture, connection, and care come together. The Black Country Orthodox Trust deserves real credit for its work in supporting young people, bringing communities together, and helping those most in need.

My visit highlights the church’s importance to the borough. This refurbishment project will help improve accessibility and make the church even more welcoming for everyone and I hope it continues to gain the recognition and support it needs to move forward. “

The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Louise Harrison

“ It was a pleasure to receive the Mayor here a few days ago. Over the years, the church has opened its doors to people from all walks of life. We have been able to spread the word to people within Walsall and around the world.

We are grateful for the Mayor’s encouragement and time and we hope to improve our community church so that more people will feel welcome and connected whenever they visit. “

The parish priest, Fr Samuel, expressing his gratitude for the Mayor’s visit
