The success of the City of Wolverhampton Council’s pioneering Technology Enabled Care (TEC) project was celebrated at a prestigious international awards ceremony on Monday night (16 March, 2026).
The council and its partners were shortlisted for one award at the International Technology Enabled Care Awards at the ICC in Birmingham, while Alcove, which delivers the service in Wolverhampton, was triumphant in another category.
TEC is helping residents in Wolverhampton access innovative technology that provides everyday support, enabling them to live the independent lives they want.
It offers a wide range of products tailored to people’s eligible care needs, such as sensors, smart speakers, video doorbells and advanced falls radar.
The service in Wolverhampton is building on a pilot programme delivered in partnership with West Midlands 5G (WM5G), which demonstrated how digital technologies can improve people’s quality of life.
And its impact was recognised at the International Technology Enabled Care Awards on Monday night, where the council, Alcove and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust were shortlisted in the Workforce Development, Digital Skills and Culture category, with Alcove winning in the Innovation and Data Driven Impact category.
Councillor Paula Brookfield, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: “Through the pilot, we have been able to demonstrate how Technology Enabled Care has the power to transform lives – helping people remain independent, safe, and connected, while giving families peace of mind.
“At the same time, it has demonstrated a sustainable way for us as a council to meet rising care and support needs, and we are pleased to have now launched our own TEC service which is embedded into our new ways of working within adult social care.
“The benefits TEC is bringing to people is clear, and it is fantastic that its impact was recognised by judges at the International Technology Enabled Care Awards this week.”
Meanwhile, the WM5G TEC programme is shortlisted for the Transforming Outcomes with Technology Enabled Care Award at the MJ Achievement Awards, taking place in London in June, and in the Public/Private Partnership category at the LGC Awards, which will also be held in London in June.
