Over 100 residents and school children attended two creative workshops to take part in an in-depth discussion to shape the new Eco-Park.
While the principles for the space have been set out in the outline planning application and the initial design ideas have been developed from using feedback from previous consultation and analysis of the existing park, this was a further opportunity to listen to residents’ ideas to help shape the detail for the benefit of existing and new communities.

Councillor Peter Hughes, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Infrastructure, attending the event, said: “Today has been a great opportunity to engage with a wide section of the Brandhall community, hearing their suggestions and ensuring that the new eco park is shaped by the residents. Sharing their vision today has been essential in creating a green space that encourages active travel while preserving and enhancing the existing natural habitat for the existing and new communities.”
Libby Bradley, a teacher at Brandhall Primary School, added: “It’s fantastic that the children have had the opportunity to contribute their ideas to the changes happening in their community during the planning stage. It’s not every day that children can say, ‘I helped design a part of where I live and play.’ We are hoping that by involving the children, they will develop a greater sense of care and respect for the park they helped design and encourage their friends and family to do the same.”
Lilly, aged 9, said: “It feels really good that I planted an acorn tree that will be here for a very long time in the Eco-Park.”
