New MGS5 EV achieves highest safety rating

The new MGS5 EV – which arrived in showrooms this spring – has now secured the highest possible safety rating from Euro NCAP. Euro NCAP awarded the MGS5 EV a 5 Star rating with the vehicle excelling in both adult and child occupant safety tests as well-being commended for the many features designed to protect road users.

Notably the vehicle achieved impressive safety ratings, scoring 90% for Adult Occupant Protection, 82% for Child Occupant Protection, 82% in Vulnerable Road Users and 78% in Safety Assist.

The MGS5 EV’s top rating maintains MG’s strong performance when it comes to independently verified safety standards, the MG HS and the multi award-winning MG4 EV also hold 5 Star Euro NCAP safety ratings. The MG4 EV has also been awarded top marks by Green NCAP, the industry-leading European emissions assessment programme.

Euro NCAP Programme Director, Aled Williams, commented: “Congratulations to MG for a well-deserved five-star rating for the MGS5 EV. Euro NCAP continues to push manufacturers to strive for the highest levels of safety, and it is rewarding that MG have responded so positively, with excellent performance across all areas of occupant and partner protection.”

The MGS5 EV is supported by MG Pilot, which provides comprehensive range of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) designed to make every journey as straightforward and as safe as possible. MG Pilot covers key areas such as Collision Avoidance, Lane Safety, Cruise Control features and Driving Assistance features including active emergency braking and blind spot detection.

Advanced, safety-focused technology extends beyond the cabin with MG partnering with Continental to equip MGS5 EV with outstanding braking performance. The latest generation of Continental’s integrated braking booster system for EV’s is utilised with large brake discs (321mm front, 300mm rear) delivering impressive braking distance. From 62mph, MGS5 EV can achieve standstill in 35.5 metres.

Since 1997, the European New Car Assessment Programme has been the benchmark for the safety of new vehicles on sale in Europe – helping consumers to make informed decisions when choosing their next vehicle. Euro NCAP performs comprehensive, objective and independent safety evaluations, now taking into account standard assist systems and passive safety.
