New course takes adult learners from crime scenes to courtrooms

Adult Education Wolverhampton is inviting learners across the city to explore crime and psychology by enrolling on a new 8 week course.

Understanding the Criminal Mind, starting next month, explores crime, law, and the psychology behind criminal behaviour, providing learners with a broad introduction to the criminal justice system.

It will run from Wednesday 6 May to Thursday 2 July, 2026 with sessions held every Wednesday and Thursday from 9.30am to 3pm.

The course is open to all adults, with no formal qualifications required, making it ideal for those with an interest in criminal justice, psychology or law, as well as anyone considering progression into higher education.

Learners will gain insight into key areas including the court system, criminal and family law, how laws are made, and the criminal justice process from arrest through to prosecution. Alongside subject knowledge, the course supports progression through the development of study skills and academic writing, as well as guidance on university pathways, UCAS applications and student finance.

Course highlights include forensic psychology activities, guest speakers, University of Wolverhampton taster sessions, a library workshop, and a university campus visit, offering learners valuable real world context and exposure to higher education environments.

Adult Education Wolverhampton’s Deputy Head of Service Anna Place said: “Understanding the Criminal Mind is a challenging and engaging course designed to spark curiosity and build confidence.

“It not only gives learners an insight into crime, law and psychology, but also provides practical skills and guidance for those considering further study or a career in the sector.”
