Work on the exciting Holbeche Place development in Solihull will begin this June, marking the start of a major investment in the future of the town centre.
To minimise disruption to shoppers, visitors and businesses, work is being delivered in phases. As part of phase 1, the Mell Square car park and public toilets will close on Tuesday 31 March 2026, allowing Solihull Council to begin safely decommissioning services and equipment ahead of demolition.
The closest alternative council car parks are Poplar Road car park (formerly Marks & Spencer), Lode Lane Pay & Display, and Dominion Court on Herbert Road.
The Council is committed to ensuring that Solihull remains inclusive and accessible to all. 33 additional disabled parking bays will be created within the Poplar Road and Lode Lane council car parks, bringing the total across these two car parks to 62. This means both car parks will meet the Department for Transport’s recommended disabled parking provision of 6%.
Blue badge holders can also park free of charge all day in any council car park bay, not just the designated “yellow” disabled bays. They can also park for free all day in any standard on street Pay & Display bay, although on-street disabled bays remain subject to a 3 hour limit. The closest alternative public toilets – including accessible toilets, baby change and Changing Places facilities – can be found within The Core and Touchwood Shopping Centre.
In February, the Council approved Muse’s plans to transform Mell Square with up to 1,600 homes, retail, and new public spaces. It was also announced that the development is moving forward under the new name of Holbeche Place.
Phase 1 will deliver 346 new homes across four residential blocks, alongside a complementary retail offer, private residential amenity spaces, car parking, and landscaping.
Later in 2026, the closure of MFG Brueton Park Service Station on Warwick Road will also take place, as it sits within the Phase 1 boundary. Further details will be shared on the Council’s website once confirmed.
