Council celebrates International Women’s Day

Walsall Council, together with the Walsall Community Network, is hosting a special event to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday 7 March 2025.

The event hosted at the Brownhills Community Association, WS8 7JE, from 12:30am to 2:30 pm, will focus on promoting inclusivity, women’s resilience, and the diverse career journeys of women.

Aligned with this year’s global theme, “Accelerate Action,” the event aims to foster collective efforts to drive meaningful change and promote inclusivity. Over 20 leads from voluntary organisations and community groups across the borough are expected to attend.

Among the inspirational speakers will be two speakers from the council. They include Emma Bennett, Chief Executive of Walsall Council, who will share her career journey in senior leadership and Councillor Kerry Murphy (Portfolio Holder for Street Pride), will also be in attendance on the day.

“ International Women’s Day is an important day and a call to action for all women.

It is about celebrating the achievements of women in all spheres of life, whether you are a mom, working to build a career, or working together to build a fair and inclusive community for everyone.

We are proud to celebrate the contributions of women of all ages and reflect on the progress made and look at making a better future. “

Emma Bennett, Chief Executive of Walsall Council

“ We are delighted to celebrate every woman this International Women’s day and beyond. There’s loads of activities within the borough to take part in and we encourage you to take action and celebrate yourselves for the wonderful role you play in our local community. “

Councillor Kerry Murphy, Portfolio Holder for Street Pride

Other events to celebrate the day include:

An interactive discussion with a coffee morning at the Walsall Black Sisters Collective WS13RU from 11:00-14:00 providing a platform for attendees to connect, share insights, and inspire one another.

Walsall Women in Business: A networking event delivered on behalf of Walsall Council by the Walsall High Growth Programme. Women entrepreneurs and business professionals from the Walsall region will come together for a networking brunch, creating a fantastic platform for sharing business experiences. Venue: Fairlawn’s Hotel and Spa, 178 Little Aston Road WS90NU. Time: 9:30 to 11:30.

Walsall Leisure is offering a Women’s Wellness’ talk session with free activities at Bloxwich Active Leisure Centre and Darlaston Swimming and Fitness Centre on Saturday 8 March to inspire more women to become more active. There’s no need to book, just turn up. For more information visit @ourwalsall on facebook.

“ This International Women’s Day, we are thrilled to partner with Walsall Council to bring together women from across our vibrant community. This event is a powerful opportunity to share experiences, build connections, and collectively drive positive change.

We believe that by amplifying women’s voices and celebrating their resilience, we can create a more equitable and inclusive Walsall for everyone. “

Jan Davies of Walsall Community Network

Walsall Council is also committed to fostering acceleration and inclusivity. To mark the day, there will also be an International Women’s Day marketplace event, which is an opportunity to connect, engage, and celebrate the invaluable contributions of female staff at the council.
