The annual Stoptober campaign is calling on smokers in the city to join the millions of people across England who have made a quit attempt since Stoptober launched in 2012. City of Wolverhampton Council’s latest Safer Routes to School project has been given top marks by pupils. The measures are on Bushbury Lane and Collingwood Road, near Bushbury Nursery School and Northwood Park Primary School. They include a new zebra crossing on Bushbury Lane, a pedestrian refuge in Collingwood Road, upgraded signs and road markings, flashing 20mph limit signs, school zone markings and dragon’s teeth. Walsall Council is joining communities in marking Sickle Cell Awareness Month this September, raising awareness of the challenges faced by people living with sickle cell disease, celebrating resilience and building understanding of the disease.
