Walsall parks to see significant improvements

Work has commenced on improvements to three parks and play areas in Walsall.

The £470,000 project will be delivered on behalf of One Palfrey Big Local, with funding from Local Trust, following consultation with residents which identified green spaces for investment.

As part of the work, the play area at Palfrey Park will be extended with four new items of play equipment installed and a new seating area created.

The play areas at Bescot Crescent and Rutter Street arena will also be refurbished and resurfaced with the existing outdated equipment removed and replaced with new items.

Meanwhile, the sports arena at Rutter Street will be resurfaced, with new basketball posts added and redundant lighting columns removed.

“ I am very excited to see these improvements delivered.

“This work will give our young people better places to enjoy and socialise in inclusive environments. I am very thankful for all those involved in making this happen.

“Once complete I would encourage our residents to make use of the facilities and look after them. “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Health and Wellbeing

Walsall Council appointed RFC Construction to undertake the project, which is being delivered on behalf of One Palfrey Big Local, with funding from Local Trust.

“ This is one of our legacy projects and we’re so pleased this work is now underway. We look forward to seeing the works complete for children and families to enjoy, just in time for the summer holidays. “

Colleen Jones, Chair of One Palfrey Big Local

“ We are delighted to contribute to the enhancement of One Palfrey Big Local by introducing works that offer added visual appeal for the entire community.

“Our collaborative efforts aim to provide improved facilities for families of all ages. “

Hugh O Sullivan, Contracts Surveyor at RFC Construction Ltd

Work is set to be complete by the end of July.
