The Commonwealth of Nations’ Flag was raised outside the Council House in Walsall during an official ceremony on 10 March 2025 at 11am.

The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris, speaking at the 2025 Commonwealth Day

The event, hosted by the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris, took place at the Council House Forecourt on Lichfield Street, Walsall. Dignitaries including the Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands, Kevin Davis, we’re also present for the occasion.

Students from Castlefort Junior and Mixed Infants School, along with Walsall Wood School, took part in reciting the Commonwealth Affirmation.

Aidan from Walsall Wood School and Silas from Castlefort Junior and Mixed Infants School were honoured to raise the Commonwealth Flag on behalf of Walsall.

“ We are proud to fly this flag to reflect the deep-rooted networks of friendship and goodwill that connect all Commonwealth countries around the globe.

Commonwealth Day is a positive opportunity for us to join with others throughout this global family, allowing us to come together in a spirit of understanding to celebrate our shared values, including the promotion of peace, democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.

It was an honour to be part of marking this special occasion. “

The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris

Commonwealth Day is observed on the second Monday of every March to celebrate the shared values that connect 2.5 billion people across 56 countries. On this day, hundreds of Commonwealth flags are raised simultaneously and displayed in prominent locations throughout the UK and the Commonwealth nations.

This year also commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Commonwealth Secretariat, the executive branch of the association.

Following the flag-raising ceremony, attendees were invited to the Mayor’s Parlour, where students’ project work prepared for the occasion was exhibited.
