Work has commenced on improvements to three parks and play areas in Walsall. The £470,000 project will be delivered on behalf of One Palfrey Big Local, with funding from Local Trust, following consultation with residents which identified green spaces for investment. As part of the work, the play area at Palfrey Park will be extended with four new items of play equipment installed and a new seating area created. A planning application has been submitted to build 12 new council apartments on a disused garage site in Graiseley. Construction partner Keon Homes has put forward the proposals on behalf of City of Wolverhampton Council for the affordable one bedroom homes off Russell Street. Sandwell Council is starting work on a ‘Tiger Crossing’ and new canal access at Heath Street Smethwick on Monday 16 June. A “tiger crossing” is an informal name for a parallel crossing, a type of pedestrian and cycle crossing that gives priority to both of them. They are designed to allow cyclists to cross a road without dismounting and with priority, alongside pedestrians.
