Social Prescribing open day to take place this March

Residents are invited to find out more about Walsall’s social prescribing service at an open day taking place this March.

The Making Connections Walsall Service (MCW), led by a partnership of community organisations including Walsall Council, will hold the open day on Wednesday 19 March from 10am to 2pm at the Manor Farm Community Association Shop in the Saddlers Shopping Centre.

Making Connections Walsall is a friendly service for residents of all ages in Walsall. It addresses loneliness and social isolation and empowers residents to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing. Between February 2024 and February 2025, the service supported over 460 residents to help reduce anxiety, achieve personal goals, join a group or build confidence or independence.

Coinciding with Social Prescribing Day, an annual celebration of the individuals, organisations, and communities that champion social prescribing, the open day at the Saddlers Centre promises to be an informative and engaging experience for residents to meet with their social prescribers and find out what is on offer.

“ We work closely with a number of community organisations across the borough to offer our Making Connections Walsall service to anyone who needs support in engaging with community activities and building social networks. The service is also vital to helping anyone experiencing loneliness and isolation through befriending schemes.

Social prescribing helps people live the best lives they can. I would encourage residents to pop in to the open day, meet their link worker or simply find out more about what’s on offer. “

Councillor Garry Perry

Leader of Walsall Council
