Sandwell Start-Up Hub celebrating inspirational women on International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day (8 March) Sandwell Council is celebrating women’s empowerment, equality and contributions as business leaders.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘#AccelerateAction’.

Since its launch, over 50% of women business leaders have successfully qualified for free workspace at the Start-Up Hub, providing them with valuable resources to grow and develop their ventures. Working spaces are available for aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners at the Sandwell Start-Up Hub.

Watch the video from Rachel Butler Founder and CEO of Pippatopia who shares her inspiring journey.

Sandwell Start-Up Hub, located in Jack Judge House, Oldbury, B69 2AJ, is available from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and offers free welcoming workspaces including collaborative spaces, kitchen facilities, free WiFi and meeting rooms for hire.

Inspiration comes in many forms — whether through academic or career success, overcoming adversity, making a difference for communities or empowering others to succeed.

Watch the video from Sandwell’s female councillors who speak up to celebrate women’s achievements on International Women’s Day.

We want to hear about the women who have changed our borough or benefitted the lives of others. Residents can share their stories by using the hashtags #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction and tagging @SandwellCouncil. Residents can also share their stories by emailing Marketing_Publicity@sandwell.gov.uk

Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, said: “At Sandwell Council, we are proud to help support and advocate women in business. This year, International Women’s Day is asking all leaders in all fields, whether they are involved in local government, business, education or other aspects of life, to take action and invest in promoting women’s rights and gender equality.

“Within the council, we are asking our colleagues to share their stories with us too. Acknowledging and praising the actions of women in our community is just one way we can #AccelerateAction in both the workplace and our wider communities.”
