Sandwell Council is delighted to announce it has been awarded nearly £300,000 from the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Cultural and Creative Investment Programme.
The funding will support and upgrade cultural and heritage infrastructure across Sandwell, with the aim of increasing cultural activity and participation for residents of all ages.
Investment will be directed towards a wide range of cultural spaces and initiatives, including enhancements to digital infrastructure, improvements to high streets, and upgrades to museums, archives and libraries. A portion of the funding will also be distributed as grants to grassroots and community organisations, helping to strengthen the borough’s vibrant creative sector at every level.
Among the projects set to benefit are Thimblemill Library, which will be upgrading its performance spaces, and Oak House Museum, where improvements will be made to the playground area to enhance the visitor experience for families and young people.
Councillor Suzanne Hartwell, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community at Sandwell Council, said: “Sandwell has a rich and varied cultural scene that continues to grow and change. Taking part in arts, heritage and community activities can make a real difference to people’s lives, helping them feel happier, learn new skills and connect with others.
“This funding will help more residents, of all ages and backgrounds, to have the chance to enjoy and get involved in culture across the borough, in ways that truly reflect and celebrate our diverse community.”
Further details about individual projects and funding allocations will be shared over the next two years as the programme progresses.
