Sandwell Council nearing completion of new affordable housing scheme in Tipton

-r Cllr Smith, Daniel Coward and Mike Doyle from J.Harper & Sons

Sandwell Council, in partnership with J. Harper & Sons (Leominster) Limited, is nearing completion of the construction of a new affordable housing development at Beever Road, Tipton.

The scheme will deliver 18 high-quality homes for local residents in need of safe, secure, and affordable housing. The scheme includes a mix of 8 one-bedroom apartments along with 10 two-bedroom bungalows that have already been handed over and allocated to tenants. All properties have been designed to meet the needs of families and individuals with four of the new homes being built to wheelchair standards.

Councillor Vicki Smith, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Sustainable Development, said:

“This is a proud moment for us. These new homes are a vital step in tackling the housing crisis and providing much-needed affordable homes for people in our community. It’s about more than just bricks and mortar – it’s about giving people a place to call home.”

Built to high energy-efficiency standards, the new homes will help reduce living costs for tenants and support the council’s long-term sustainability goals.

Delivered in partnership with J. Harper & Sons (Leominster) Limited and supported by funding from Homes England, the scheme demonstrates a shared commitment to creating inclusive, future-ready communities.

Mike Harvey, Group Commercial Director at J. Harper & Sons (Leominster) Limited, said:

“We are thrilled to have collaborated with Sandwell Council on this exciting project, providing much needed affordable housing for the Tipton Community. The installation of EV charging points and PV panels, combined with the bungalows achieving an EPC A rating and the flats achieving an EPC B rating, not only facilitates sustainable living but also enhances energy efficiency, contributing to a greener future for the local community

“At J. Harper & Sons we strive to create positive social value impacts, which is why we invested in the local community to deliver benefits beyond the build. This project exemplifies our ethos, as we welcomed several students from local colleges and universities as apprentices, utilised local subcontractors and suppliers and supported local colleges with career events. “
