The Safer 6 campaign returns to Sandwell from Monday (9 June) for six weeks of focused action and activities to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and other community concerns.
The campaign will see Sandwell Council, Sandwell Local Policing Area (LPA), West Midlands Fire Service and other partner agencies join forces to address issues which matter to residents across the borough’s six towns.
Through the Safer Sandwell Partnership, there will be a wide mixture of activity including enforcement, joint operations, education around the dangers of carrying weapons and highlighting services which are available to support our communities.
Each of the six towns will have a focus week during the campaign:
Week 1, Oldbury: Monday 9 June – Sunday 15 June
Week 2, Tipton: Monday 16 June – Sunday 22 June
Week 3, Wednesbury: Monday 23 June – Sunday 29 June
Week 4, Rowley Regis: Monday 30 June – Sunday 6 July
Week 5, West Bromwich: Monday 7 July – Sunday 13 July
Week 6, Smethwick: Monday 14 July – Sunday 20 July
Alongside a host of activities lined up through each week, there will be an information roadshow in each town promoting safety, crime prevention and healthy living. The first roadshow, which will officially launch the campaign, is at Asda Oldbury, Wolverhampton Road, Oldbury, B69 4PU, on Tuesday (10 June) from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
The Safer Sandwell Partnership includes the council, police, fire service and many others with a focus on improving community safety.
Safer 6 aims to build on the work taking place day in, day out to address people’s concerns and help raise awareness around the support they can access from different agencies.
Councillor Suzanne Hartwell, Sandwell Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community, said: “We know there are issues that worry and frustrate our residents and we’re responding to those with targeted action and activities across the borough. It’s vital that people are safe and feel safe where they live and work.

We work closely with the police and many others through the Safer Sandwell Partnership throughout the year to prevent and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, and make sure everyone can get the support they need.
“Safer 6 is the perfect opportunity to build on that, bringing people together across Sandwell to promote safety, crime prevention and healthy living.”
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill, responsible for policing across the borough and Chair of Safer Sandwell Partnership, said: “This is all about working together to make sure Sandwell is a safe place to live, work and visit.
“We know there are real issues which impact on people’s lives and we’ll be working on these during Safer 6. This is not just about enforcement though, as through the partnership we can look to change perceptions and highlight the support which is available.”

There will be six aims running throughout the Safer 6 campaign:
Increase awareness of crime prevention, safety measures and partnership successes to help deter offending and provide public reassurance.
Give residents, businesses and organisations the knowledge and confidence to report community safety issues and seek support.
Help vulnerable people of all ages, with a focus on tackling knife crime and preventing violence against women and girls.
Improve public spaces by targeting issues such as littering, fly-tipping and graffiti.
Promote healthier lifestyles and our work to protect the public from the sale of illegal and dangerous goods.
Bring communities together through events and activities to help foster cohesion.
Join us as we kick off each week with a launch roadshow event in the local community. These information events are open to everyone and offer a chance to meet local service providers, enjoy family-friendly activities and find out how to get involved in a range of Safer 6 events across the borough.
