People in Wolverhampton are being encouraged to have their say in a national Government consultation on proposed reforms to the Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) system.
The consultation sets out plans to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND from birth to age 25, with a focus on earlier help, fairer access to support, and shared accountability between local partners.
The Government is seeking views from anyone with an interest in the SEND system, including children and young people, parents and carers, teachers, school leaders, multi‑academy trusts, and professionals working across education, health and social care.
The proposals will also be relevant to early years settings, post‑16 providers, academic organisations and representative bodies.
To have your say, please visit SEND reform: putting children and young people first. The consultation closes at 11:59pm on 18 May, 2026.
Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “We want to ensure all our children and young people have the best possible start in life, and this is especially true for those children and young people with SEND.
“The Government is consulting on proposed reforms to the SEND system, and I would encourage everyone with an interest in this – from children, young people and their families, to schools, health and social care professionals and anyone else who either uses or works in the system – to have their say.”
