New Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station beginning to take shape

default

Work to build a new state-of-the-art Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station in Walsall has ramped up on Middlemore Lane in Aldridge.

In the last few weeks, tarmac has been laid to create the bays where residents will be able to recycle their waste for years to come.

External cladding has also been fitted to buildings on the site, with both the waste transfer station and reuse shop now taking shape.

Work at the site is expected to be complete by summer 2025, with a view to operations starting later in the year.

“ The site is progressing really well, and you can really see how impressive it is going to be when complete.

“This site is a huge development for Walsall and is going to be vital moving forward, allowing us to accommodate increases in demand and to recycle and reuse more of our waste.

“The new facilities will enable us to deliver a new waste strategy which will launch alongside the site. This strategy will emphasise a shift towards a circular economy, where materials are reused and recycled. “

Councillor Kerry Murphy, Portfolio Holder for Street Pride

“ It’s fantastic to see the visible progress at the Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station in Aldridge.

“Working collaboratively with Walsall Council and Pagabo, we’re creating a modern, environmentally friendly facility that will encourage residents to recycle more effectively and support Walsall’s environmental ambitions.

“We’re looking forward to delivering the next phase of the project, while delivering social value in the area and ensuring that this investment benefits the wider community both during construction and well into the future. “

Richard Fielding, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Midlands

When complete, the Middlemore Lane site will enhance service capacity, reduce queues, and introduce a reuse shop to divert items from landfills.

Aerial images of the site also showcase solar panels which have been installed across the roof of the waste transfer station.
