eBay data reveals the UK’s most security-conscious motorists in 2024

New 2024 eBay data reveals residents of Romford, East London, continue to be the UK’s most security- conscious car owners, purchasing the highest number of vehicle security accessories per capita.

Following Romford, Llandudno, Conwy, and Redhill in Surrey rank second and third, while Dorchester, Dorset, and Truro, Cornwall, round out the top five.

eBay’s analysis, based on vehicle security product purchases throughout 2024, highlights a growing shift towards traditional, non-electronic car security solutions.

Security Trends: A Return to Traditional Protection

In 2024, searches for traditional security accessories—such as Faraday pouches and steering wheel locks—increased by 2.75% compared to 2023.

Most notably, steering wheel locks became the most searched-for car security item on eBay, overtaking car alarms, which fell to second place. The third most searched-for accessory was wheel clamps, followed by Faraday pouches, pedal locks, and Faraday boxes.

Searches for Faraday boxes—designed to block keyless car theft—saw the largest individual increase, rising by 8% compared to 2023.

Abir Tewari, UK Director of Commercial Operations, Parts & Accessories at eBay, said: “Our data shows that British motorists remain highly security-conscious, with a clear preference for tried-and-tested security solutions. While digital security features are important, traditional accessories—such as steering wheel locks and Faraday pouches—continue to provide that extra layer of protection and peace of mind for vehicle owners.”

eBay offers a comprehensive range of vehicle security accessories, from steering wheel locks and car alarms to OBD port blockers and car immobilisers, helping motorists safeguard their vehicles against theft.
