Desire Community Hub Expands with New Centre in Digbeth

Birmingham, UK – Desire Community Hub (DCH), a well-established community organisation based in Balsall Heath, has proudly opened a brand-new community centre on Warwick Street, Digbeth.

Founded over three years ago on Runcorn Road, DCH has built a strong reputation for supporting the local community through a wide range of projects, including mental health support, sewing and computer classes, fitness sessions, and Quran studies. The organisation also works closely with young people to tackle issues such as knife and gun crime, while hosting regular events, community trips, and educational workshops.

The new Digbeth branch aims to extend these efforts, with a special focus on educational classes and community-based activities.

Founder Sajad Khaliq said the opening marks a major step in DCH’s mission to serve Birmingham’s most in-need areas.

“Our aim is to set up community centres in deprived areas so we can reach more people who need support,” said Mr. Khaliq. “This new centre will also focus on feeding the homeless, as it’s close to Birmingham city centre where homelessness is a growing issue. We’re also proud to announce a new initiative providing free tablets to students, helping them with their studies and improving access to online learning.”

Director Hasina Sheikh expressed her joy and pride in opening another DCH branch close to the heart of Birmingham.

“We are overjoyed to be expanding our work into Digbeth,” said Ms. Sheikh. “Our goal has always been to uplift local communities by giving them access to vital resources, skills, and opportunities. With more branches planned for the near future, we want every area of Birmingham to feel the positive impact of DCH — a place where people can come together, learn, and grow.”

Area Manager Hawa Dabilia also shared her excitement about the new opening and the additional support it will bring to residents.

“This is a great milestone for us,” said Ms. Dabilia. “The new Digbeth centre will make a real difference for families and young people in the area. I’m also delighted to introduce our DCH Community Discount Card, which will help local residents save money while supporting small businesses. It’s a win-win for the whole community.”

With its latest branch in Digbeth, Desire Community Hub continues to strengthen its role as a pillar of support and empowerment across Birmingham — providing education, care, and opportunity to all.
