Council launches sexual health toolkit for professionals

The City of Wolverhampton Council’s Public Health team has unveiled a new Sexual and Reproductive Health toolkit to give professionals the knowledge and resources they need to support residents’ wellbeing.

Launched to mark Sexual Health Week 2025, which is now underway, it has been developed in response to feedback from local health, social care and community workers, and aims to make conversations about sexual health easier, more accurate and culturally sensitive.

It includes practical advice including real life insight covering everything from choosing the right contraception to building healthy relationships.

It also shines a light on the sexual health of the local community, pointing people toward confidential services like contraception providers and STI testing, and features helpful videos and conversation starters on topics like getting tested, different contraceptive methods, and HIV, all designed to make those important conversations a little easier.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: “By embedding sexual and reproductive health into routine conversations, professionals can play a key role in supporting the health and wellbeing of residents.

“This new toolkit provides clear, accurate information which will help ensure professionals have the confidence and resources they need to discuss sexual and reproductive health, reduce stigma and improve access to services.”

A series of free webinars will be held over the coming weeks to guide professionals through the toolkit and demonstrate how it can be incorporated into daily practice.

If you need to talk to someone about your sexual health, please visit the Embrace website, NHS | Embrace, use Chat Sexual Health, Embrace’s text message advice service for people across Wolverhampton, or call the Embrace Advice and Guidance line on 01902 481689.

Similarly, If your sexual health is affecting your mental health and you have been experiencing symptoms of increased worry and anxiety, speak to someone in confidence by contacting Wolverhampton Talking Therapies at Wolverhampton Talking Therapies or Wolverhampton Sanctuary Hub by calling 0800 802 2288 or texting 07860 065 168.

Sexual Health Week 2025 explores how people’s increasingly digital lives – shaped by dating apps, online health services, and AI – are transforming the way they think about sex, relationships, and wellbeing. Under the theme Chronically Online, the week invites people to reflect on the impact of technology, from deepfakes and algorithm driven stereotypes to the potential of AI in improving sexual health services.
