Council and partners join forces to combat brazen daylight fly-tipper

Walsall Council and its partners are taking decisive action to locate and seize a vehicle caught fly-tipping in Darlaston.

On Thursday, 6 February 2025, a white van was recorded whilst disposing of numerous household items on Walsall Street, Darlaston. The discarded items included refrigerators, a child’s booster seat, and sofa cushions.

The individuals involved reportedly returned to the same location twice within the same hour to deposit additional rubbish onto the existing pile.

A vigilant resident documented the incident and promptly reported it to the council.

“ I am shocked and appalled by the brazenness of these fly-tippers. It is unacceptable that they treat our borough as a dumping ground.

Our teams work diligently to maintain the cleanliness of our borough, yet due to the negligence of these individuals, our communities are continually affected. This situation is simply unacceptable.

I firmly uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards fly-tipping. If you are responsible for this crime, be prepared to face the consequences. Rest assured, enforcement actions are underway. “

The Leader of Walsall Council, Councillor Garry Perry

The council is collaborating with its partners to address this incident and to seize the vehicle involved. Meanwhile, the council’s Fly-tipping Enforcement officers are conducting a thorough investigation.

The Bentley and Darlaston North ward, where the incident occurred, represents 5.82% of all fly-tipping reports in the borough. Walsall Street, the location of the incident, accounts for 1.34% of all completed fly-tipping reports in the Bentley and Darlaston North Ward, and 0.08% of reports across the entire borough.

Residents are reminded that Walsall offers two free Household Waste Recycling Centres: Fryers Road, Bloxwich, and Merchants Way, Aldridge. A new state-of-the-art Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station in Aldridge is also under construction, due to be completed later this year. These facilities ensure that waste can be disposed of legally and properly.

For those struggling with larger items, the council provides a bulky items collection service, which can be booked through the council website.

Additionally, residents with special needs, such as a growing family or medical conditions, can apply for a larger bin via the council’s website.
