Collecting Cars flies the flag at Rétromobile to kick off The European Speed Collection auction

Collecting Cars is returning to Rétromobile Paris (5-9 February) with a star-studded stand, featuring a physical preview of its upcoming European Speed Collection online auction (2-9 February). With an estimated total collection value exceeding €3 million, The European Speed Collection represents the bookends of the collector car wish list, from performance heroes to modern-day sensations and rally greats.Headlining the online auction is a 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder. Coming to the sale from its first and only owner, who has used the car for just 930 km, it is presented in near-new condition, finished in Liquid Metal Silver over a striking and collectable Mocha Brown / Orange leather interior. Reserving its place in the history books as one of the original ‘Holy Trinity’ hypercars, the Porsche 918 Spyder is a standout of its time, and is likely to sell for €1,500,000-1,700,000.It sits alongside a fellow limited-edition great – a 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S Edition Roadster. With just 2,770 km from new, and being one of just 150 examples built to commemorate the late, great, Sir Stirling Moss’ 1955 Mille Miglia victory, it’s a rare sight to see on a public auction; especially in its Crystal Palladium Grey over 300 SL Red specification. The 722 S Edition Roadster is likely to sell for €625,000-700,000.Previewed at the upcoming Rétromobile event will be another highlight from The European Speed Collection: a 1994 Porsche 911 (964) Turbo 3.6. Offered at no reserve, this car is finished in a desirable Midnight Blue / Black colour combination and has been with its last owner for 24 years.Instantly familiar to generations of enthusiasts thanks to the model’s starring role alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the 1995 film Bad Boys, the 3.6 Turbo is the rarest of the 964 generation, and holds huge motorsport pedigree, as the 3.6-litre engine proved itself in the Carrera Cup. Distinguished by its chassis and enhanced with a lowered stance, updated callipers and badging, the car also features a speedometer that tops out at 320 km/h. This example is one of just 1,437 produced.
