Changing room refurbishment for grassroots football team in Walsall

Refurbishment work has brought new life into a grassroots football team’s changing room.

The changing facilities situated at Clayhanger Park were still in use by local teams, however, many would avoid them due to their poor condition.

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK stepped forward to help through Walsall Council’s corporate social responsibility programme. The company re-decorated both the interior and exterior of the changing room in December 2024.

Work included painting the floors and replacing the coat hangers in the changing room, most of which were broken. The changing room is now back in use for Walsall Wood Juniors F.C. and Walsall Wood Wildcats U16.

SUEZ has also provided the teams with equipment and provisions to sell hot drinks which will become self-sustaining and help provide funds moving forward.

“ This work will make a world of difference for the teams that use the site on the weekends for their training and matches.

“I am so thankful to SUEZ for completing this work and going above and beyond to help us improve our borough.

“Sport is really important for people’s physical and mental health and is a key part of our long-term vision for the borough, We are Walsall 2040. We want the people of Walsall to be healthy and well.

“Opportunities to get involved in sport at a younger age increases the likelihood of those children to go on to be active adults. “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing at Walsall Council

“ We are committed to giving back to the communities we serve and are proud to support Walsall Wood Juniors F.C. and Walsall Wood Wildcats U16s by enhancing their changing facilities at Clayhanger Park.

“These improvements aim to create a more welcoming environment for players, parents, and supporters, making match days even more enjoyable. “

Martin Bladon, Operations Manager at SUEZ
