Alcohol advice offered to Walsall residents during awareness week

Walsall residents are being encouraged to adopt healthier choices by cutting down or quitting alcohol as part of Alcohol Awareness Week (7–13 July).

The Beacon – Change Grow Live, commissioned by Walsall Council’s Public Health team, is raising awareness of the health and social impacts of alcohol. The service, which provides specialist treatment for individuals experiencing alcohol and drug addiction, is offering guidance and support to anyone looking to take control of their alcohol consumption.

Advice on safer drinking includes keeping within the recommended limit of 14 units per week, spreading drinking over three days or more and having several drink-free days each week.

Residents looking to cut down or quit drinking are encouraged to make a plan, let family and friends know, stay hydrated and ask for help.

“ Making even small changes to our drinking habits can have a big impact on our health and wellbeing. It can boost our energy, improve our mood and enhance memory and productivity. I encourage anyone who needs support to reach out to The Beacon. “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Health and Wellbeing

Walsall Council

“ We offer a wide range of support at The Beacon to help anyone who may be struggling with alcohol use. When you come to us, we will work with you to find the treatment that best suits your needs. We also run regular groups and meetings such as SMART Recovery to help you look at making positive changes in your life.

Many of our service users have shared their recovery journeys and the support they have received. Their stories are a powerful reminder that no one is alone and that help is always available. “

Anne Brunozzi, Service Manager

Walsall Council

Over the last year, the council has shared stories of service users who have experienced problems with alcohol and gone through recovery with the help of The Beacon.

You can watch the stories of Laura, Angela, Vanessa and Marilyn on the council’s YouTube channel.

The Beacon offers free and confidential support for anyone in Walsall experiencing alcohol or drug use. Residents can refer themselves or professionals can refer clients to the service online via the Change Grow Live website. For more information, please contact thebeacon.walsall@cgl.org.uk or call 01922 669840.
